Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard – Austix, TX 1997

willmer

Posting these Willie shows is making me realize that I need to go see him play soon.   Its been a while, and I’m feeling the weight.   I couldn’t go last time he was in Illinois, good thing he is on a never ending tour and will be back here soon.   Check online the Willie Nelson Tour Schedule chances are good he will be near you soon too.

Johnny Gimble plays on this show too, adding a great Texas Swing flavor through out.   A sax player solos too which I liked quiet a bit.

This is the first time ever they do “Pancho and Lefty”  together live.   I think its fitting that Merle forgets a few lyrics, seen that he didn’t even remember recording the song when they did it years ago.

The sound quality of this is outstanding.   Willies guitar rings like a bell on this solo version of “Funny How Time Slips Away”.

If you are looking for some mood music tonight, try “Be My Valentine”.

Hey, it sounds like they are recording this or making a movie — do you know anything about that? Someone sent me this — was it you? I love this album. Thanks!

      Hi Linda,

Are you thinking about the Last of a Breed DVDwith these guys and Ray Price? That one is from the concert tour in 2007. This show is from 1997 and does not have many of the songs that are on Last of a Breed. But has a Western Swing feel. And listening to this recording it was filmed. Don’t know if it was ever released.

I didn’t send this too you. But I would be glad to send you some CD’s, and not just because your blog is awesome, but because your a BRONCOS fan!

      Cheers,

      Luke
