This one goes out to my old buddy Wilder who I saw multiple Willie Nelson shows with. He would constantly yell requests for “Red Headed Stranger”, which were never granted. He spun the Willie Nelson and Family Live record at a party at his house that was immortalized in the Palace song “Weed Whacker”. I’ve been hooked ever since. And he is responsible for the site redesign. By the way that’s my axe pictured above!
Your gonna be pumped with this one because Willie does a big medley of tunes from the seminal album Red Haired Stranger. Which I guess in modern times is pretty rare. Robbie posts a few thoughts on that album, right here, with a great version of “I Love The Life I Live”.
Leon Russell plays his honky tonk piano all over this one, which is real special. Check out the tune “A Song For You” from this show, which you can stream on my other blog thing.
This tape comes from a legend in the Grateful Dead taping community, who recently passed away. RIP Jerry Moore.

I am a serious bootleg collector and had an incomplete copy of this boot. I am forever grateful to you for posting the entire show. This really is one of the two or three best boots in my entire boot collection, and moreover is the greatest thing I’ve ever heard ol’ Willie do. The energy in this show is unreal, and the Time of the Preacher suite is both rare and AMAZING. Thanks again for putting it up. Definitely, as you said, MANDITORY
Thanks for the comment Sluggo, glad you found it. This is such a great show.
Hey dude, you are the man!-I’ve been looking for some Leon Russell!-saw him , first time last year in Tarrytown New York!-he was great -not really a Willie Nelson fan, but I am open minded-love Leon. Will there be anymore LR down the road?-how about more DTB-, either way, thanks for your generosity!-Cheers, Craig
No worries, Craig.
Gotta love Leon. I have a show from 1971 with Elton John as the opening act. I can put that one up if you don’t have it. It’s a lot of fun.
There is plenty more DTB around to post. Did you get his latest CD Revelator? Good stuff.
Cheers
Hell Yes! Just finding this old post of yours and i am so glad it is here. Thank You Thank you!
I’m speechless. This site is unbelievable. Leon’s version of “Song For You” in this concert really does remind me that it’s good to be alive. Did you post the concert you mentioned above — 1971 Leon with Elton John as the opener?
Yeah Leon is the man…I will work on that other show.
