Tim O’Brien has been in many different band formations so I am going to post a few incredible shows of his.
This show was originally billed as Tim O’Brien Band with Brian Sutton, Stuart Duncan and Dennis Crouch. Kenny Malone and Darrel Scott were in Nashville to record a session with Tim and Dennis for a Joan Baez record. I am glad they showed up to jam at the Station Inn because this is a great fantasy bluegrass band all-star line up. Too bad they didn’t take it on the road to thrill bluegrass fans across the nation all summer long. Lucky for you and me Phil Harris (nashphil) was present to record this show in matrix format.
I got this show last time I was in Australia. Right before the 24 hour long journey home my wife asked me to add a few Disney shows to my iPod for the kids. Plugged my iPod into my brothers computer and hit the sync button, deletating tens of thousands of songs that I didn’t have saved on a computer. Heatbreaking. This show was the only tunes I could listen to for the whole trip, and I listened to it pretty much the whole way. Never got sick of it and was never bored / lonley the whole trip. It still brings a lot of joy whenever I listen to it now.
A great version of “Early Morning Rain”, the Gordon Lightfoot tune, you can listen to it by clicking on the link. “Lets Go Hunting” is a lot of fun here.
