Robert Plant & Allison Krauss

by Luke Harris on May 12, 2009

kraussplantI caught this tour last summer when they came through Chicago supporting their CD Raising Sand.   The CD is OK, didn’t change my life or anything.   I think its a good substitute for when I want to listen to a Tom Waits album, which I hadn’t done much of since I was sailing around the Pacific Northwest on Joeys boat.   And that was almost a decade ago.

Thanks to an all star Nashville band (listed below) and some surprising song selections (also listed below) this live show is a lot more fun than the studio offering.   Which is to be expected.

I’m not sure why Krauss and Plant didn’t release a live set of Zeppelin tunes hot on the heals of their Grammy Awards sweep.   We can credit this release of the Columbia, MD show to a fine member of the community with a hearing disability.   Said person recorded this show of an Assisted Listening Device, sending it through the interwebs and enriching the lives of many.

Unlike most people  I was at the show to see Allison.   She immediately developed an intimate connection with the audience singing with a voice of an angel.   The delicate gospel combo of “Green Pastures” > “Down to the River To Pray” was breath taking.   I recall feeling a little uncomfortable when Allison experiences a very vocal orgasm towards the end of “Battle for Evermore”.   Looks like the Columbia, MD crowd brought her to the same level.   Or was it the rock and roll sex god she was sharing the stage with?
