Thanks again for the great blog, so nice to stumble onto it! To answer your question...yes and no. that wonderful girl and I had just begun dating and that was our first whirlwind getaway (made a side drive up through Mississippi to Memphis pay our respects at Graceland) and we spent many years together after that. Then we ended up going our separate ways but remained good friends. It all worked out for the best- I ended up marrying a dreamboat and now have three kids...but that New Orleans week is still a vivid great memory. More serendipidity...for our next vacation after N.O. we went to Cancun (oh to be young again) and while spending a day on the island of Isla Mujeres, we foudn a little bar with just one older gentleman...we got to talking and learned that he was the head of the N.O. Jazz and Heritage Festival, and every year after the festival ended he ran away to Isla Mujeres to decompress.

BTW - There is video of this show on YouTube. Sam--you might recall the Elvis head totem way above the crowd--it's featured on the video. What a day. It is great to be alive--thanks for this site!

Make that two who were there. Sam's comments warmed my heart. For years I have been telling folks about having to make the choice between SRV and the Neville Brothers...in New Orleans. Well, how can you be in two places at once when you're nowhere at all, so I chose Stevie, and it was glorious. I recall the tough choice before that was Dr. John on one main stage and Boz Scaggs on the other and I had to go with Mac. Funniest thing was that i had no idea that there was a music festival happening in N.O., just flew there from Calif. on a whim with my girlfriend because we were listening to a song by the Tragically Hip called New Orleans is Sinking. Ther day we arrived we saw a listing in the paper and saw SRV.s name, ran there, paid $10 and thank you God!

Hi there,
i'm the guy who recorded, mixed and put the show on internet.
Thanks for liking my work, and of course, Ryan's music.
I would have appreciate if you mentionned me in your review, Luke....

I'm speechless. This site is unbelievable. Leon's version of "Song For You" in this concert really does remind me that it's good to be alive. Did you post the concert you mentioned above -- 1971 Leon with Elton John as the opener?
